Tonight the Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) held its inaugural Muslim Communities Forum, which I was delighted to emcee. The purpose of this event was to demonstrate the Community Connections initiative of GMCT in an effort to proactively engage with Muslim communities in Melbourne’s northern region.

GMCT’s Chief Community Officer shared key findings from a Directional Graves consultation conducted by Ellis Jones Consulting (for which I was engaged externally).

Those attending tonight, included representatives from the ICV, BOIV, mosques and community leaders. They collectively asked numerous questions which were recorded by the GMCT team to investigate and respond to at a forthcoming MCF. In all, feedback was positive, indicating a genuine gratitude for the sincerity of GMCT in its engagement strategy  that sought to centre the culturally specific needs of this community moving forward with future burial site development.

A massive win for multicultural engagement conducted proactively, and not reactively. #diversitymatters #diversityandinclusion #engagement #communityconnections #gmct #ellisjones #tasneemchopra #crossculturalconsultant
