Today I  addressed the Rotary International District 9800 Annual Conference in Shepparton. As one of a two ‘Inspiring Women’ speakers, I spoke about the realities of racism embedded in systems in this country that present ongoing changes to Indigenous communities, migrants and refugees. I spoke candidly of my encounters and in depth about the impact of Islamophobia as well. I also commended movements lead by diverse individuals who carved a safe space for their communities to relate to, and highlighted the value of mainstream organisations adopting socially inclusive policies in word and deed. Not as tokenism. At the conclusion of my speech I was presented with a gift from Toshi, a Japanese exchange student currently studying in Bendigo at my old high school (CANT MAKE THIS STUFF UP! )

So, there we have it, Toshi and Tas, in a Country town, from a country town, championing cultural diversity in our lived experience. #endracism #endxenophobia #makeanoise #makeitloud #tasneemchopra #crossculturalconsultant
