On June 13th, as Chairperson of the Australian Muslim Women’s Centre for Human Rights (AMWCHR), we launched ‘Working with Muslim Women on the effects of family violence and child sexual abuse on children’.
This guide considers the migration, cultural and familial contexts of the impact of family violence and sexual assault on children from a Muslim background. It’s aim is to support workers from the community sector to design and run workshops that effectively meet women’s needs, augmenting knowledge with culturally sensitive information.
It was gratifying to see women from within the community, service providers, as well as state and federal government representatives attend and support this initiative.
Once again, AMWCHR makes strides in tacking issues that matter, locating the welfare and protection of women and children as a human rights imperative. Congratulations to all involved in development of this module.
May vigilance in protecting the marginalised in our community bring forth their empowerment.
