Prior to the screening, I participated in a panel discussion along with the Minister for Women and the Prevention of Family Violence, Fiona Richardson MP and CEO of DVRCV Emily Maguire.

We discussed, among other things: the role of education in combating discrimination- from primary to tertiary level, lessons in gender inequality in the workplace, the role of language and conversation in reinforcing misogyny and the overlooked capacities of CALD and indigenous women leaders in shaping strategies to defeat family violence in their communities.

The role of the State in administering just outcomes acknowledged that while motions were in place, further resourcing and proactive consultation was essential.

I commended the Ministers for the governments commitment of $61 million to violence prevention strategies. I emphasised the importance of co-opting CALD leaders in the consultative phase of allocating funds and policy development.

A proactive and not reactive culture for change requires implementation.
