A Cultural Immersion program as a component for the Asialink Leaders Program for business leaders, involved a dinner and tour at the Islamic Museum of Australia on Tuesday night, 9th August 2016.
Speakers included Tasneem Chopra, IMA Curator, Sherene Hassan , Director of Islamic Museum of Australia and Dr Eeqbal Hassim, Assoc. Dir. Of the Asia Education Foundation.
Between each speaker, topics were presented on the personal, multicultural and socio-political perceptions that inform how Islam is perceived by Australian Muslims and the broader community.
Further, a panel discussion between the speakers was facilitated by Jenny McGregor AM of the Asialink Leaders Forum and the thirty participants present. Discussion was robust and pertinent. Feedback from participants was very positive, as some relayed the dialogue and museum experience as helpful in combatting their misconceptions, particularly in view of media inspired notions.
