Enjoyed a night of arts precinct indulgence beginning at the Melbourne Recital Centre for #Rebetiko – a festival celebrating 100 years of Greek urban music of the underground from Istanbul, Athens, Thessaloniki & Melbourne. Next up, at #TheMalthouse, saw one of the final performances of ‘Good Muslim Boy, by Osamah Sami. Co starring Rodney Afif and Nicole Nabout. Synopsis:

“Drawing from his award–winning novel of the same name and his recent smash hit film Ali’s Wedding, Good Muslim Boy recounts Osamah’s hilarious and heartbreaking personal history. Osamah’s father is his hero. When the pair visit Iran together, his hero dies. To bring his body back to Australia, Osamah must draw on every ounce of will and wit to wend his way through the minefield of Iranian bureaucracy, beauty and contradictions found at the cross currents of two cultures.”

This was an intense play with strong performances from all artists. It commanded a powerful emotional investment throughout – and knowing this was in fact Osamahs story, made the reflections all the more poignant
