Had a brilliant time at the #RedCrossAU event , for ‘Architects of Social Bridges’. The gravitas of this issue was amplified in spades after Sen. Hanson’s maiden tirade of racism cloaked in factual errors, earlier this week.
Between right wing rhetoric and known truths of lived disadvantage, artists and thought leaders dissected the barriers and victories of social cohesion. An amazing evening of stories, music and conversation, including poet giant, Abe Nouk and Latin American music ensemble, Terrasur.
The panel session I moderated involved: Margaret Piper (Red Cross, BOD), Sherene Hassan (Director, Islamic Museum Australia), Dr Greg Phillips (Medical Anthropologist and Waanyi & Jaru man) and Shabnam Safa (Noor Foundation and refugee advocate).
Kudos to the amazing Red Cross staff, especially Hedda, Pamela and volunteers for executing an amazing event (and food!! Thank you ASRC!). The huge crowd turn out on a cold, rainy night is testimony to the RedCross’ goodwill and reputation. Congrats!
