#tb to 2016, sitting on a panel organised by the Australian Human Rights Commission and legal firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth to discuss Leading for Change. This was based on the seminal report ‘Leading for Change: A Blueprint on Cultural Diversity and Inclusive Leadership. My co-panellists included Dr Tim Soutphommasane, former Race Discrimination Commissioner and key author of the Blueprint, as well as John Denton AO, CEO of Corrs Chambers Westgarth.

Expertly facilitated by Annette Hughes of CCW, this event covered the need for diverse leadership as more than a business imperative, but rather a matter of integrity.

Tim shared findings which highlighted a massive failure in leadership and executive roles reflecting the demographics these organisations served. I stressed the need to model diversity in order to attract it, highlighting examples of implicit bias linked to our socio-political climate and the importance of dismantling this. John spoke to language in leadership, setting quotas and acknowledging and leveraging the cultural acumen organisations possess.
